Earlier on Tuesday, we covered an article claiming that West Ham United were in the lead to sign Dan-Axel Zagadou, currently a free agent after leaving Borussia Dortmund.

The centre-back has yet to find a club, but RMC Sport reported that Lyon were providing competition for the Hammers, who are clearly looking to bolster their defence a bit more.

This, however, has since been contested by L’Equipe journalist Hugo Guillemet, who replied to a fan on social media, stating that ‘Lyon are not after Zagadou’.

He then added he wasn’t quite sure why everyone was linking the Ligue 1 side to the West Ham target, but with five centre-backs already on the books, there was little need for a new one to come in.

This should leave the door wide open for David Moyes’ side to sign the free agent, who will be wanting to find himself a new landing spot as soon as possible.

West Ham did sign two defenders this summer in Nayef Aguerd and Thilo Kehrer, but with Craig Dawson not exactly young and Angelo Ogbonna relatively injury prone, it would make sense to bring in an extra body in what will be a long season at London Stadium.
