Chelsea continue to monitor Inter Milan defender Alessandro Bastoni ‘strongly’, according to InterLive.

The Blues showed Graham Potter the exit door at the weekend and are yet to appoint his permanent successor.

Irrespective of who replaces Potter, the 23-year-old continues to appeal to the entire Chelsea management. They have identified the centre-back as the target to improve their defence next season.

Inter have Romelu Lukaku on loan from the west London club. The two clubs are expected to hold a fresh round of talks for the Belgian striker and they could also discuss Bastoni.

Chelsea have a formula in mind to sign Bastoni as it’s claimed they could ‘even go so far as to’ offer €35m plus Trevoh Chalobah as part of the deal for the Italy international. The Blues player continues to be of particular interest to the Serie A side.

Bastoni’s deal expires in 2024 and the Nerazzurri are working to extend his contract. Even if he signs an extension, he can ‘immediately say goodbye’ to the San Siro because of Inter’s need to raise funds to improve their economic conditions.

There are many clubs outside Italy keeping tabs on Bastoni. Inter must ‘keep an eye out’ on not only Tottenham Hotspur, but also Chelsea, who continue to monitor him strongly.
