Four days ago, we relayed news from Spain that talks are advancing for Barcelona to sign Manchester City’s João Cancelo. It was also stated the La Liga side want the right-back on a loan deal while the Citizens are looking for a sale in the summer window.
A ‘confidential’ report from today’s Sport states the Catalan club’s priority is to bring in a new right-back and an attacking midfielder. For the former, Cancelo’s name ‘appears on a recurring basis’ at the Camp Nou.
It’s claimed the 29-year-old’s relationship with Pep Guardiola is poor and he will have to leave Manchester City in this window, even if it’s on a loan deal.
That’s because the report states it would cost Barcelona over €20m, in a loan fee to Manchester City and wages, to sign the former Valencia man on a temporary deal.
This is something the Spanish giants cannot afford, especially since the player won’t be owned by them.
Sport add Xavi’s side are of the belief that it’s best to look for alternatives instead of investing €20m on signing the Manchester City player on loan.
