According to claims in the Belgian media, Anderlecht are interested in Newcastle United goalkeeper Matz Sels. The Belgium international joined Newcastle United last summer, but has struggled since his arrival in England.
Het Belang van Limburg have reported Anderlecht could look to move in on Sels after it was confirmed Frank Boeckx will miss the start of next season due to injury. The Jupiler League champions subsequently need to bring in a replacement, and an attempt to loan the Newcastle United player is an option.
Sels has fallen out of favour at the club, and with the World Cup in Russia next year he needs to be playing regular football to get into Roberto Martinez’s squad.
The 25 year old signed from Gent last summer, however, Sels is no longer first choice with Newcastle United boss Rafael Benitez, after the Spaniard installed Karl Darlow as his No.1.
With Tim Krul set to return from his loan spell with Dutch side AZ this summer, Sels could find himself further down the pecking order, and may need to find a club in the next window.
