Earlier this summer, we covered a story that Lazio could turn to Chelsea’s Loïc Rémy as the Blues would be willing to cancel his contract a year early and let him leave the club ‘nearly for free’.

The idea here was for the Premier League champions to get rid of the player’s ‘pharaonic’ contract, as there’s absolutely no chance of him featuring under Antonio Conte.

According to Corriere dello Sport, one club are trying to take advantage of the player’s situation, and could benefit from a similar scenario to that mentioned above.

The Italian newspaper explain that Cagliari, who were also said to be after Newcastle’s Aleksandar Mitrovic, are well and truly after the former Marseille striker, but only if they can get him on a free.

The club’s president, Tommaso Giulini, is said to be doing his best to get a deal done, but it seems they are refusing to pay any money for the player, probably due to the wages they would have to give him were he to sign.

With one year left on his deal, it might be in everyone’s best interests to just let Rémy go.
