AS Roma have made an approach to sign Manchester United’s Eric Bailly in the summer window.

Earlier claims stated Napoli and AC Milan are interested in the defender, and the two Serie A sides are joined by the Giallorossi.

According to Gianluca Di Marzio, Roma seem ‘more convinced’ to get ahead of the Italian champions for the 28-year-old, and that’s because of José Mourinho.

The Portuguese tactician was at Manchester United for over two years and the centre-back was his first signing at Old Trafford. A move to the Italian capital could see the centre-back reunite with his former manager.

Roma are ‘intensifying contacts’ with the Red Devils to secure the former Villarreal man’s services. It’s claimed Erik ten Hag’s side are deciding whether to let the player go out on loan this summer, with the Ivory Coast international having two years left on his contract.

The competition for a place in the starting XI will further increase with Lisandro Martínez’s addition to the squad. Bailly is likely to be behind the Argentine, Harry Maguire, Raphaël Varane and Victor Lindelöf in the pecking order, if he decides to stay at United.
