Bild journalist Christian Falk has arrived with a surprising claim on Tuesday, stating Newcastle United are keen on signing Timo Werner.

The 26-year-old has failed to really convince since his move from RB Leipzig to Chelsea in 2020. Last season he only managed to score four goals in the Premier League, although he did add a further seven in other competitions.

His statistics weren’t helped much when assists were added, with six of those picked up across all competitions. With the World Cup on the horizon, Werner will know things need to improve if he’s to be a big feature for Germany in Qatar.

That’s seem some transfer hints, which Thomas Tuchel snapped back at recently. The Chelsea manager feels Werner should simply be happy with his life at Stamford Bridge and focus on having a bigger role in the team.

Falk doesn’t explain what type of deal Newcastle United would be looking at, whether it would be a loan or a permanent transfer, and Chelsea’s stance is also unclear.

A return to the Bundesliga has been mentioned repeatedly, although Bayern Munich and Borussia Dortmund have backed away from the idea.
