Is Toby Alderweireld the next free agent to sign for Juventus? That’s a question which Turin newspaper Tuttosport asks in a headline today.

The Old Lady have become specialists in signing players for free in the past few years, and the Tottenham Hotspur defender is now seen as one of the targets for next season.

Tuttosport mentions ‘English sources’ to speak about the interest, and it’s not entirely clear if they mean the English media or the sources they have in the country.

Either way, they say Mauricio Pochettino’s plan for the future is to have Davidson Sanchez and Juan Foyth in central defence, making Alderweireld just a rotation player. The Belgian defender is seen by the outlet as an ideal partner for Matthijs de Ligt.

But Juventus are worried about some competition, especially from Manchester United, who could actually end up paying Tottenham so they could guarantee his signing in January.

That’s why the Old Lady could be making an early move, and perhaps find a deal with Alderweireld before the summer, just like they did with Aaron Ramsey when getting him from Arsenal earlier this year.

They’d actually have to start work before the winter window to beat January competition, but perhaps Tuttosport don’t want to suggest their local club would speak to Alderweireld before they’re allowed to.
