Edinson Cavani’s final year of contract with Manchester United would alone be a reason for Boca Juniors to keep trying to sign him next year.

However, with the striker staying on the Red Devils’ bench for most of the time, that only increases the rumours of a transfer.

A new story from Argentine outlet Depo reiterates that the 34-year-old continues to be a target for the Buenos Aires side.

It’s claimed that club vice-president Juan Roman Riquelme ‘dreams’ of making three signings to strengthen their squad, and Cavani of one of them.

Boca Junior’s football council is said to be thinking about the ‘big name’ signings that can ‘give fans the hope back’, and the best scenario would be with moves being made for free, which is his case.

Cavani is mentioned as a player who’s frequently been named as a ‘pipe-dream’, but the signing has never happened.

This time, they point out that he’s been ‘demoted’ following Cristiano Ronaldo’s arrival at Old Trafford, and that’s an advantage Boca Juniors would have.

Following his stay at Manchester United this summer, the Uruguayan has no goals in his six appearances for the Red Devils this season.
