With Aston Villa starting the season rather poorly, the last thing they will want to be doing is weakening their squad.

Despite some arrivals this summer, Steven Gerrard’s side have struggled to get going a bit, as they sit 15th in the table after four games, with one win and three losses to their name.

Of those fixtures, Douglas Luiz has started just the one, which was the recent 1-0 loss to West Ham after being on the bench for the other three.

This shows that Gerrard isn’t particularly counting on the Brazilian as much as he once was, with the player’s contract expiring next summer and no renewal in sight.

Talk of a move to Italy was rife for a bit when AS Roma were reportedly interested, but that finally died down, only to reemerge late in the transfer window, with Juventus now taking over as suitors.

This comes courtesy of Corriere della Sera, who explain that the inability to get a deal over the line with Paris Saint-Germain for Leandro Paredes has forced the Serie A side to look elsewhere.

The deal for the Argentine ‘got tangled up and Juventus hint at the possibility of also contemplating Aston Villa’s Douglas Luiz’.

Whether they do make a move for the Brazil international remains to be seen, but they have little time to get something sorted, which generally means a loan of some sort could be organised, perhaps with an obligation to buy considering his current contractual situation at Villa Park.
