What started off looking like a great piece of business from Sevilla at the start of the season didn’t quite end that way.

Samir Nasri’s time in Andalusia was an all too familiar story, with injury upon injury disrupting what should have been a reinvigorating season for the Manchester City loanee.

Now set to return to the Etihad with two years left on his contract with the Premier League side, the former France international seems unlikely to fit in Pep Guardiola’s plans.

Brief talk of a return appeared, but that was quickly dismissed, but one option that many will have expected seems to be making an appearance: China.

According to FootMercato in France, Shanghai Shenhua are ‘seriously studying’ the possibility of buying the Manchester City forward.

With few European clubs likely to want to gamble on Nasri’s fitness, especially when taking into account his wages, after his recurring problems, joining Gustavo Poyet and former teammate Carlos Tevez at the Chinese club could end up being a valid option.

Of course, it all depends on Nasri’s ambitions.

Still, it wouldn’t be surprising if at least one bid from China were to arrive for the 29-year-old in the coming months.
