The front page of Monday’s La Cuarta, a Chilean newspaper, has Alexis Sanchez smiling alongside a man playing the bagpipes and a headline reading ‘Old English Toffee’.
There’s no explanation why, perhaps we’re missing something culturally here, but the Chilean press are celebrating Sanchez signing for Manchester United.
When Sanchez moved from Barcelona to Arsenal there was a great deal of excitement in Chile and for months his every move, and every opinion of English media and fans, was followed intently.
That enthusiasm somewhat diluted over the years as Arsenal didn’t quite have the charge to a Premier League title battle that was hoped for.
From a Chilean perspective, everything on Sanchez to Manchester United is confirmed. La Cuarta say because Sanchez is ‘healthier than a yoghurt’ he flew through his medical and will then went to The Lowry Hotel to prepare for his presentation.La Cuarta say that presentation will come today, and Sanchez can then train with Manchester United.
