With Ajax turning down Chelsea’s €50m bid for the transfer of Edson Alvarez, the Dutch media has always made it clear that the decision was against the player’s will.

De Telegraaf featured a story on deadline day claiming the player was ‘angry’ as he found it ‘unfair’ that his club blocked him from moving to the Premier League.

The piece even claimed Chelsea are ‘one of his dreams clubs’, but with Ajax not willing to lose any other important players in the window, they didn’t let him go.

Well, it seems Alvarez and the Blues don’t need to lose all hope regarding the transfer, because according to the very same outlet, it’s possible that the move could happen in a few months.

On De Telegraaf’s podcast Kick-Off Football, journalist Mike Verweij explained that the player continued showing ‘professionalism’ despite having the switch blocked. He trained normally at the Dutch club, even though he wasn’t happy to do it. And with his positive behaviour, it’s now said that Ajax could be open for the sale soon.

“Now he just wants to make that transfer to Chelsea. If a club comes along that is willing to pay fifty million euros for you and want to give you ten million euros net per year… He wanted to go. He was quite broken,” said Verweij (via Voetbal Primeur).

“A winter transfer is possible. There will be talks with Chelsea in the coming days.”
