On March 24th, Chelsea’s Marcos Alonso revealed that he would “love to play in La Liga” and opened the door to join one of Real Madrid, Atletico Madrid or Barcelona in the future.

Fast forward to April and today’s edition of Sport has a report on the left-back, stating that his name is on the Catalan club’s transfer agenda.

The newspaper explains the Blaugrana followed Thomas Tuchel’s man last summer, before further stating the 31-year-old has been ‘always liked a lot’ at the Camp Nou.

Barcelona were of the belief they could carry out a ‘low-cost’ operation to sign the Spain international.

However, a deal couldn’t be carried out since Chelsea were not in favour of letting him leave in 2021.

Alonso’s current deal at the London club will expire in 2023, and with his ‘name on the agenda’ of Xavi Hernández’s side, Sport state the fullback’s exit from Stamford Bridge ‘cannot be ruled out’.

In the event the player were to leave Chelsea for Barcelona in the next window, he will compete with Jordi Alba for a place in their starting lineup.

Alonso has three goals and four assists from 37 matches in all competitions this season.
