Chelsea are continuing to be linked with goalkeeping options around Europe, despite having Kepa Arrizabalaga.
After a disappointing start to the season for the Spaniard, Frank Lampard dropped him for a run of matches, although he’d returned to the team before the Premier League was paused due to the Covid-19 outbreak.
At the time, there were repeat claims in Spain that Kepa was being used a scapegoat, with Lampard trying to distract attention from his perceived own failings. It all felt like PR from people close to Kepa, and not really the best route to take.
Well, things have changed, report Marca on Monday.
They say Kepa is determined to cement himself as Chelsea’s first choice, and is ready for a fresh start when football returns. He’s ‘forgotten’ about any issues with Lampard, and is currently preparing himself ‘mentally and physically’ for another crack at shining in the Premier League with Chelsea.
Marca say, ‘according to his friends’, Kepa is doing everything he can to get himself in the best shape, and wants to return ‘stronger’ for Chelsea.
Should he be able to get to a consistent top form, then that would be one less problem for Lampard.
