The transfer window is rumbling on and Jules Koundé has still not signed for Chelsea, despite reportedly being on the verge of doing so for weeks and weeks.

Like last summer the defender is the saga that just won’t come to an end and that’s because of Barcelona’s meddling.

They’re determined to have their fingers in as many pies as possible, whilst mortgaging their future, and that’s led to weeks of conflicting reports.

Well, like the rest of us, it seems that Estadio Deportivo have had enough of it. They cover the situation today and the ‘truths and lies’ about the defender.

According to them, Sevilla and their sporting directors had planned to have the transfer sorted last week. That’s not happened because of Barcelona activating their ‘levers’ and releasing some funds.

That’s complicated matters, although the Chelsea option ‘has not yet been ruled out’ with a source at Sevilla telling Estadio ‘we are still negotiating with both of them’.

The newspaper confirms that both sides are offering Koundé a deal until 2027 but rejects the suggestion from Sport that a deal has been completed with Barcelona. They say negotiations did start on Tuesday but there is no ‘understanding’ as yet.

Sevilla have insisted any information otherwise is false and that is simply attempts in the media by Barcelona to make it looks as if Chelsea have ‘already forgotten’ about the defender.

Similarly, reports Chelsea have offered €65m are wide of the mark. Officially their only written offer is €50m plus €5m in variables. Barcelona are offering €45m plus €10m but Monchi won’t accept that either.

Koundé, meanwhile, remains professional and has offers from both clubs on the table. Chelsea have offered him more money than Barcelona in terms of wages.

In other words, there is still a chance Chelsea could get the defender this summer. That idea is boosted by El Chiringuito, who say Barcelona are also negotiating for defender Inigo Martinez.

That could see then turn away from Koundé, but it is unlikely at this moment in time, so expect this saga to run for a little while longer.
