Chelsea have reportedly opened talks to sign the Cagliari goalkeeper Rafael Bittencourt, for what would be a surprise move.

As reported by Italian outlet Tutto Mercato Web, the Blues are keen on acquiring the player, whose contract with the Serie A side expires at the end of the season.

Chelsea’s intention would be to have the 36-year-old as a third choice goalkeeper, as they look well served with Kepa Arrizabalaga and Willy Caballero for now.

That’s all Tutto Mercato Web reports for now.

Rafael is currently on Cagliari’s bench, having only one appearance this season, which was made in a cup game.

The Brazilian started his career at Santos, later moving to Flamengo and São Bento. He signed for Hellas Verona in 2008, and made the move to Cagliari in 2016.

It’s worth recalling that last summer, Chelsea renewed the contract of 36-year-old goalkeeper Eduardo for one year, and later loaned him out to Dutch side Vitesse on a season-long deal.
