Kepa Arrizabalaga’s failure to convince Frank Lampard last season saw Chelsea bring in a new goalkeeper in the summer transfer window.

The Blues took Edouard Mendy from Rennes and he arrived at Stamford Bridge last month.

Prior to signing the Senegal international, the Premier League side had their sights set on AC Milan star Gianluigi Donnarumma.

This is according to Calciomercato, who state the west London side were the ‘most interested’ club in signing the 21-year-old.

Chelsea were joined by other suitors, including Paris Saint-Germain and Real Madrid.

The English club ‘pulled out’ of signing the Italy international after investing in excess of €20m to secure Mendy’s services.

As per the report, the Serie A side have ‘not received any real signals’ from Lampard’s side, which suggests Chelsea never converted their interest into an offer for the Milan keeper.

That’s because the likes of Chelsea and other clubs felt the goalkeeper wants to stay at the San Siro, even though he has less than a year left on his contract.

According to Calciomercato, work is in progress at Milan to extend Donnarumma’s contract.
