On July 10th, L’Equipe stated Chelsea had been working for several days to sign Montpellier’s Elye Wahi. It was also stated the Blues were ready to overcome competition from Eintracht Frankfurt and others to secure his services.

The west London club are owned by BlueCo, who have recently acquired French side RC Strasbourg. The company’s idea is to sign the striker and send him out on loan to the Ligue 1 side.

That’s according to Foot Mercato, who provide further updates on Chelsea’s pursuit of the 20-year-old.

Wahi managed 19 goals and six assists from 33 games last season and that’s helped him draw attention from Arsenal, Newcastle United and other clubs.

Despite this, it’s claimed the option to join Mauricio Pochettino’s side and then go out on loan to Strasbourg is gaining ‘little more weight every day’.

The report states the talks are ‘progressing well’ and Chelsea hope to complete the deal ‘within this week’. There’s no mention of the fee the Blues plan to offer to Montpellier.

Foot Mercato say Chelsea will have to be wary about Inter Milan, who ‘still believe in their chances’ of getting the France U21 international. They add his future should ‘take a new twist quickly’, indicating a decision will be made soon.
