Gazzetta dello Sport report Domenico Berardi is facing a ‘summer crossroads’ as his future could be away from Sassuolo.

The 27-year-old has been at the Serie A club since joining from Juventus in 2013, initially arriving on loan before the move was made permanent in 2015.

He’s steadily built his career and is now a regular feature in Italy’s national team. That shows his progress, and Gazzetta say another sign of that is an approach from Chelsea to sign him.

According to the Italian newspaper, Chelsea and Borussia Dortmund both made approaches to sign the midfielder last summer. Gazzetta take that as a clear sign of the ‘leap in quality’ that Berardi has achieved.

Sassuolo aren’t actively looking to sell the player, but would consider offers which meet their demands and allow the player to continue his development. There’s no explanation for why a move to Chelsea or Dortmund didn’t materialise, and the asking price is now put at a base price of €35m plus bonus payments.

Gazzetta say ‘the offers will not be lacking’ in the summer, although it remains to be seen whether Chelsea will return for the player.
