Burnley’s Anass Zaroury is looking likely to be called up to Morocco’s squad for the World Cup as a replacement for the injured Amine Harit.
That’s according to Foot Mercato, who say the Burnley man is ‘emerging’ as the leading candidate to replace Harit in the squad heading to Qatar.
Harit picked up a serious knee injury in the clash between AS Monaco and Marseille at the weekend which is set to put him out for several months and end his chances of going to the World Cup.
Walid Regragui now needs to find a replacement for him and the name that is ‘emerging’ as the leading candidate is Burnley’s Zaroury, who ‘should replace’ Harit in the squad.
He has eight goals and two assists for Vincent Kompany’s team this season but has never played for the national side as he has Belgian nationality.
Thus, he will need a document from the Belgian federation to officially validate his change, something which is now in the pipeline so he can join the group in Doha ahead of Morocco’s first game against Croatia on 23rd November.
