Fortuna Dusseldorf are unlikely to sign Brighton & Hove Albion youngster Michal Karbownik on a permanent basis, despite having a purchase clause in his loan deal.

That’s according to BILD, who cover the player today as he continues to shine at the German club.

Earlier this week we covered a report on how Karbownik was shining out on loan, having moved to Fortuna in the summer in search of regular playing time away from Brighton.

The 21-year-old has certainly been enjoying that, establishing himself as a key player and making eight appearances in the 2. Bundesliga so far.

He’s been earning rave reviews and BILD continue that today, saying he is ‘too good for the 2nd league’ and demonstrating that regularly.

They explain that Fortuna have an option to buy him in the current loan agreement, but the fee is ‘in the high millions’ and the sum is one that is ‘almost impossible to afford’.

There is also the question of whether Karbownik would want to stay or move on if this year continues to be successful for him.

As it stands, Karbownik will be returning to Brighton in the summer and will only be kept if Fortuna are promoted, although even then it won’t be easy.
