Following Brazil’s elimination from the 2022 World Cup in the quarter-finals, it was no surprise to see Tite’s farewell from the coaching job, as it had already been announced this would be his last tournament in charge.

It turns out that, according to UOL, the national team had already been in touch for a replacement even before the competition kicked off in Qatar. And one of the names in the wish-list was Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola.

The Catalan manager, as well as Carlo Ancelotti, was ‘informally consulted’ by people with ‘total knowledge and authorisation’ from the Brazilian Football Federation.

Guardiola, however ‘didn’t show much interest’ in taking charge of Brazil. And once he renewed his contract with Manchester City, signing a deal which will run until 2025, the national team’s plans to sign him were ‘buried’.

Ancelotti, meanwhile, accepted negotiating once the job was officially vacant, in view of possibly taking charge in the summer of 2023. He’s now set to be one of the many options Brazil have on the table.

Pep Guardiola has been a dream for Brazil for over a decade now, but the coach continues to have his job at Manchester City as the clear priority for his career.
