Chelsea striker David Datro Fofana has been labelled a ‘big transfer flop’ as his loan deal at FC Union Berlin continues to falter.

Fussball Transfers cover the youngster today in an article looking at all of the German side’s transfer business this summer.

Fofana joined the Bundesliga side on loan from Chelsea in the summer in the hope of securing regular playing time and continuing his development away from Stamford Bridge.

Union Berlin looked like an idea destination after their impressive performances in the Bundesliga last season, which had seen them secure Champions League football, another major bonus.

It has not worked out that way, though, with the striker struggling to impress as Union’s season has completely unravelled and they’ve found themselves towards the bottom of the table.

That’s led to growing frustration at the club and that recently spilled over, with Fofana refusing to shake his manager’s hand when substituted in a game and subsequently suspended by the club for his actions.

The criticism has been forthcoming after that incident and Fussball Transfers continue it today, saying that despite the fact the Chelsea loanee ‘kept getting his chances’ he’s not rewarded the club for it.

In fact, he thanks his manager with that refused handshake and that was just one of the many reasons he can be considered a ‘big transfer flop’ so far.

They had the player a 5.5 rating, which may not sound so bad but is in fact nearly the worst it could be.

You see these ratings are based on the German school grading system, where 1 means very good, 2 is good, 3 is average, 4 is passable but still lacking, 5 is deficient and 6 is insufficient.

That means they think Fofana has pretty much been awful, something which is hard to disagree with given how things have gone so far in Germany.
