FC Nürnberg sporting director Olaf Rebbe has admitted they will always be a club that needs to sell players to generate transfer revenue as Everton continue to be linked with youngster Can Uzun.

Rebbe has been speaking to Transfermarkt.de regarding the situation at his club and the growing interest in Uzun, who appears to be earning suitors around Europe.

17-year-old Uzun has enjoyed a strong start to the season, bagging five goals in 11 games in 2. Bundesliga as well as three goals and two assists in game in the German Cup.

That’s led to increased speculation about his future, with a report at the beginning of October claiming that Everton had initiated contact about a possible move.

That was followed by another claim the same day that Everton had ‘already expressed interest’ in a potential transfer alongside Portuguese giants Benfica.

That latter report made it clear that FC Nürnberg had no interest in doing a deal at this moment in time, with Rebbe commenting and insisting that they’re not even thinking about the matter.

It seems, though, even he knows they can’t stop a potential transfer in future, with him now admitting there is an acceptance at the club that they need to sell players to raise money.

“Can has a long-term contract with us,” he said.

“He has made great development, and we are very proud that we have been able to support and support him for so long. He has drawn attention with his goals, assists and the way he plays.

“We’ll see what the future brings. But this season, change is not an issue. Fans don’t like to hear that (they’re a selling club) because, like us, they like having the boys here. But for us it is necessary to generate transfer proceeds.

“It doesn’t matter whether we do this with younger or older players. But we have to bring in some. In the short term, by that I mean definitely the next three years, we need transfer revenue.”
