PSV Eindhoven and AZ Alkmaar wins against Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur would be the ‘icing on the cake’ for Dutch clubs in Europe this season.

That’s according to Ruud Gullit in his column for De Telegraaf, via Soccer News, who believes both teams are more than capable of knocking their English counterparts out of Europe in the coming weeks.

Arsenal take on PSV in the Champions League last 16 next month, travelling to Eindhoven for the first leg on March 4th before hosting them at the Emirates eight days later in March 12th.

It’s a similar story for Tottenham, who will travel to Alkmaar on March 6th for the first leg of their Europa League last 16 clash before hosting them in the second leg on March 13th.

The London rivals will both be favourites to progress to the quarterfinals of their respective competitions but face PSV and Alkmaar sides who are full of confidence after knocking out Juventus and Galatasaray respectively in the previous round.

Gullit certainly does not believe they will take on Arsenal or Tottenham as underdogs and instead believes they can both progress, results which would be the icing n the cake for Dutch sides in Europe this season.

“I am happy and proud at the same time that PSV, Feyenoord, Ajax, AZ and FC Twente will no longer let themselves be led to the slaughterhouse on the European stage without a fight,” he said.

“PSV and AZ could not please me more by shaking off Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur respectively. It would be the icing on the cake. And it is certainly not unthinkable.

“If PSV plays like they do against Juventus, they have a chance against any club. For me, one of the best matches of the season so far.”
