Liverpool manager Arne Slot has praised Liverpool fans for avoiding a pitch invasion last weekend, believing other clubs fans could learn a lesson from them.
Soccer News cover comments from the Liverpool manager today made to Viaplay in which he discusses Liverpool title celebrations at Anfield.
Liverpool secured their 20th title at Anfield on May 27th, with a comprehensive 5-1 win over Tottenham putting them clear of Arsenal with four games left to spare.
The Reds and their fans were in raucous mood throughout the day as fans greeted the team on the team bus in their thousands, letting off red flares and creating a thrilling atmosphere before a ball had been kicked.
It was at that moment the moment really struck for Slot, who admits he started to feel how important it was for the fans at that point.
“After working here for ten months, I quickly got an idea of how much it would mean to the people here if we won this,” he said.
“But the moment we arrived at the stadium by bus, that was emotional. You felt how important it was to them. From the moment we entered the stadium until we left again, we all knew how special it was.”
Liverpool fans were also treated to big celebrations after the game was concluded, with Liverpool players and staff celebrating on the pitch in front of their supporters after the game.
That was made possible by the good behaviour of the fans in the stands on the day, with no pitch invasions or incidents detracting from the days events.
Slot was particularly pleased by that, who believes the Liverpool fanbase set a precedent for fans of other clubs to follow.
“A huge complement to our fans that there was no pitch invasion”, he added.
“That made the moment after the game so special. You often see fans running onto the field and the celebration stops or only lasts two minutes.
“I think every club in the world should see this and say: this is the perfect way to celebrate something.”
