Incoming Liverpool signing Giorgi Mamardashvili ‘is back to being earthly’ at Valencia and faces being relegated to the bench.

That’s according to AS, who report on the Liverpool summer signing today and how he currently finds himself facing questions.

The Georgian goalkeeper is set to join Liverpool in the summer after they signing him from the Spanish side in a €30m deal last summer but left him in La Liga for a season before bringing him to Anfield.

He’s the long-term successor to Alisson, who has been linked with a potential move to Saudi Arabia and will arrive with a big reputation after his performances in Spain since moving to Valencia in 2022.

The 24-year-old has been the number one since then, making 121 appearances and keeping 36 clean sheets in that time. He was also impressive at Euro 2024 for Georgia.

AS, though, say the goalkeeper is ‘no longer the ‘miracle goalkeeper’ and the debate about his starting position is now open.

That seemed unthinkable a few months ago but is very much a reality now. He has ‘become earthly’, making mistakes that were ‘previously impossible’. He made a huge mistake against Sevilla and Valencia and could have done more in goals conceded against Villarreal and Atletico Madrid.

These ‘blatant errors’ have been worsened by the fact that the cold data does not support him. Until recently he was the goalkeeper with the fewest saves in La Liga.

While his professionalism is not being questioned, despite that Liverpool move looking in the near future, his performances are and there’s every chance that Stole Dimitrievski could be brought in to replace him.
