Barcelona are keeping a close eye on Manchester City youngster Savinho as he continues to shine on loan at Girona.

That’s according to Sport, who say Deco ‘highly values’ the youngster and has put him on a list of possible targets moving forwards.

The newspaper explains that Barcelona want to reinforce their left-wing position next summer as it is an explicit request from Xavi and the sports management.

The club have already drawn up a list of chosen forwards whose performances are being ‘monitored in detail’ match by match and Savinho is one of them.

He is currently on loan at Girona from Troyes, who are part of the City Football Group headed up by Manchester City.

The Brazilian ‘pearl’ has been ‘spectacular’ for the Spanish side since his arrival, fitting perfectly under manager Michel and proving to be one of the ‘great sensations’ so far with three goals and four assists in 11 games.

His name has been ‘underlines’ in the offices at Ciutat Esportiva and he is now valued at €20m, with that figure set to rise if he continues how he has started.

Deco knows the player well as he wanted to sign him for his football agency after watching his emergence at Atlético Mineiro’s youth academy. The belief is that he could offer Barcelona numerous positive aspects and he fits into the strategy of targeting youth to develop.

Whether the City Football Group would be willing to sell remains to be seen. Savinho has never played for Manchester City, instead being sent to Toulouse and now Girona.

The reality is, though, that the long-term plan was presumably to send him to the Etihad if he developed well and the player has openly admitted to as much last month. Joining Manchester City is his dream the reason behind his career choices.

Whether that means City would block any efforts from Barcelona is debatable, but their interest is now on the radar, nonetheless.
