Fenerbahce are still interested in Arsenal playmaker Mesut Ozil and the issues he’s having with the Premier League side could lead him to joining the Yellow Canaries in the summer, report Fotomac.

It’s reported the 31 year old rejected a pay cut at Arsenal as he believes he would have been able to receive the same lower wage at Fenerbahce, if he’d agreed to it.

As paraphrased by Footmac the former Germany international told his inner circle: “If I’d taken the pay cut, I would go and play for Fenerbahce for the same money. That makes no sense.”

Remember, this is paraphrased, something very common in the Turkish media, and NOT a direct quote.

The Turkish newspaper believes these alleged comments from Ozil are another strong indicator about his desire to join Fenerbahce when he leaves Arsenal. Ozil has previously stated Fener were the team he’s supported since his childhood and he would like to continue his career at the Turkish club one day.

In recent weeks the Arsenal player has again been linked with a move to the Istanbul club.

His contract with Arsenal will expire at the end of June 2021, and it’s unlikely he’ll extend.

These claims from Turkey seem questionable, given how high Ozil’s wages, and given Fenerbahce’s financial reality, it’d be a stretch for them to even match half what he earns now.
