Unai Emery, last seen as Arsenal manager, has revealed why Aaron Ramsey left the club and how he reacted to the Welshman joining Juventus.
Ramsey joined the Serie A champions on a free transfer last summer having run down his contract at the Emirates.
It brought an end to 11 years at Arsenal, where he made 371 appearances and scored 65 goals, after arriving as a teenager from Cardiff City in 2008.
His departure was very much an emotional one, with fans sorry to see a player who won three FA Cups and two Charity Shields, as well as becoming a firm fan favourite, depart in such a manner.
Indeed, there was plenty of disappointment among the fanbase, who felt that Arsenal should have done more to keep Ramsey at the club given their shared history.
Emery, though, says it was out of his hands, as Ramsey had decided that a change in scenery was in order.
“The decisions were made by the club and Ramsey himself,” he told Tutto Juve.
“The player decided to leave and moved to a big team, which inevitably led him to another football.
“Aaron will be a very important player for Juventus; he has the same ambition.
“I congratulated him because he chose a team where he can win so much.
“Juve is a big name in European and world football. After so many years in England, this is a great challenge for him.”
