Arsenal forward Gabriel Martinelli has hailed manager Mikel Arteta, saying he believes the Gunners boss will be ‘very successful’ in his career.

Arteta has been Arsenal manager since December 2019, when he arrived to replace Unai Emery and lead the club in a new direction.

Arsenal are his first job in senior management, having previously started his coaching career at Manchester City, where he was assistant manager to Pep Guardiola for three years.

That stint meant he arrived at the Emirates with a growing reputation as one of the hottest up and coming managers in the game.

After initial early struggles under his leadership, the situation at the club has steadily improved, with the Gunners squad and style now one that Arsenal fans are more than pleased with.

This all comes from Arteta, who now enjoys growing support at the club, including from the players if Martinelli’s latest comments are anything to go by.

“He is an excellent coach and also a great person,” he told AS.

“He always brings us new things, different ways of playing so that we have variations within the game.

“He is a person who helps me a lot and who is always with the group, creating a very good atmosphere. I think he is a coach who will be very successful in his career.”

The long-term hope for Arsenal under Arteta is that he can lead them back to the top of the table and competing for titles.

At the minute, though, the focus is simply getting back into the Champions League and establishing Arsenal as one of the competitive sides in the country.

That’s going well this season, with the Gunners currently fourth in the table and a point ahead of Manchester United in fifth, albeit with three games in hand over their old rivals.

That means there is growing belief they will be playing Champions League football next season, particularly when they have won all of their last five games.

The aims are undoubtedly higher, though, and Martinelli admits Arsenal should be challenging for titles.

“A club of Arsenal’s stature and importance always has to play to win the Premier League. But we know there are other big teams, and this is a challenge for us,” he added.
