Napoli’s charge to the Serie A title last season was met with enthusiasm from around Europe and beyond. Many neutrals wanted the club to return to such glory and their exciting players encouraged that feeling further.

Unfortunately, since that victory much has capitulated at Napoli, and that’s largely down to president Aurelio De Laurentiis. He managed to fall out with manager Luciano Spalletti and wasn’t able to replace him adequately.

ADL has even had something of a public spat with star forward Victor Osimhen, which has given other clubs transfer hope. CalcioNapoli24 report Arsenal have now muscled to the front of the queue to sign the player.

Mikel Arteta’s side are now said to be ahead of Chelsea and Real Madrid, so it’s good news for Arsenal that it’s being seen that way in Italy.

Over the weekend, ADL bragged about an Osimhen renewal, more or less saying it’s as good as signed.

Rai Sport, via CalcioNapoli24, say the player’s agent has been reluctant to talk after a meeting regarding the renewal.

However, it’s made clear that such a deal wouldn’t prevent a transfer, it would just mean the player would cost clubs like Arsenal €100m+, potentially as soon as soon as the summer.

Osimhen’s current deal expires in 2025, so that was putting pressure on his price.
