Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang’s transfer from Borussia Dortmund to Arsenal might have been one of the most talked about January moves, but things could have been very different had Real Madrid expressed an interest.

According to France Football, the Gabon international, who wanted to leave the Bundesliga side after four and a half years at the club, was hoping for the La Liga giants to come knocking, something that never happened.

Furthermore, Arsenal ‘frankly weren’t the player’s preferred option’, with him secretly dreaming of Real Madrid.

That’s why Arsène Wenger tried every trick in the book to convince both him and the club, including handing over Olivier Giroud, who eventually ended up at Chelsea, with Michy Batshuayi completing the transfer triangle by ending up in Germany.

The France international wasn’t exactly keen, and nor were Dortmund.

In the end, none of this matters, as Aubameyang is now an Arsenal player, but we would be remiss if we didn’t forward what we found.
