The fact that Everton have joined the race for Rennes striker Kalmadeen Sulemana is finally being backed up by reports from the French media.

L’Equipe today writes that with the player willing to leave the Ligue 1 side in the January transfer window, the Toffees are now making an attempt to sign him.

It’s said Everton made a ‘verbal offer’ worth €19m, and the truth is that it should not be enough to sign the striker.

The first reason for it is that other clubs have already put more on the table. PSV started with €15m plus €2m in bonuses, and were recently outbid by Southampton, who offered €20m, but that was rejected.

L’Equipe claims that Rennes hope to make ‘at least’ €25m, and with Everton’s offer being ‘well below’ their expectations, the negotiations are set to continue.

The outlet also points out that Bournemouth are interested in the player as well.

So it seems there’s a big chance all these clubs will put their final offers very soon, and for the Toffees to have a chance to win that race, they should at least ensure they go over what their Premier League relegation rivals have put on the table to date.
