Tottenham Hotspur are set to beat Barcelona in the race for Djurgårdens IF rising star Lucas Bergvall.

That’s according to Sportitalia, who state the 18-year-old is ‘very close’ to becoming a new Spurs player.

It’s said Tottenham’s approach to the midfielder’s family has been ‘decisive’, to help them overtake the La Liga side in the transfer race.

Sportitalia journalist Gianluigi Longari took to X, formerly known as Twitter, to add that both the player and his father had given their ‘ok’ to the Catalan club.

However, Bergvall’s mother has ‘always pushed’ for a move to Tottenham, and this has been decisive in this operation.

Late on Thursday, journalist David Ornstein reported the Sweden international has picked the Premier League side over Barcelona. Friday’s edition of Sport relays that and then gives their take on why the Bluagrana are set to miss out on the talented youngster.

It’s claimed Barcelona were confident of acquiring his services, before Tottenham insisted, with their ‘young and remodelled project’ under Ange Postecoglou. In addition to this, Spurs’ Dejan Kulusevski has also help to convince his compatriot.

Barca were able to overcome competition from Germany and Italy, but Tottenham’s entryways clearly something else.

Sport state that within the Camp Nou, it’s pointed out that the ‘commission allocated to agents has ended up biasing’ the player’s will.

In other words, the agent fee has resulted in the representatives persuading Bergvall to pick Tottenham over Barca.

This could be Sport trying to help Barca save face, after the Catalan media were confident for that Bergvall would arrive at the Camp Nou.
