Marco Silva’s presentation at Everton got a lot of attention from the Portuguese media yesterday, with all the papers having full page stories about the manager.
But things are brought to a new level on Wednesday, as the new Toffees boss has given exclusive interviews to newspapers Record and O Jogo.
Most of the quotes were about taking on a new project, and Silva wasn’t really keen on revealing his goals at the club. In fact, he even rejected answering some of the questions about past jobs and players he managed.
But there was still some interesting chat about the transfer market, with the manager claiming he still hasn’t spoken about signing players from the Portuguese league.
Asked directly about William Carvalho, Silva told Record: “At this time, frankly, we have 38 players. We have many decisions to take, many players from the academy to analyse and to define.
“It’s obvious that later we are going to attack the market. Everything that has been said about William does not correspond to the truth.”
“I don’t want to speak individually, because afterwards they ask about Carrillo, this and that. This has begun.“The reality is that I have not yet spoken to the owner or Marcel, who I deal with on these things, about any Portuguese football players right now. I’m not saying I will not talk. But at the moment I did not mention any players who are in the Portuguese league.”
These quotes come in a very interesting time, because earlier today, we’ve covered a story from A Bola which said Marco Silva met Michel Brands on Tuesday, approving the signings of William Carvalho, Gelson Martins and Bas Dost.
Now it’s very likely that the interview happened before the meeting, and the interviewer from Record predicted what Silva had on his mind for later.
