Openly discussing his desire to return to Spain, Thibaut Courtois does nothing to dispel transfer rumours about him, especially those sending him to Real Madrid.

Also linked with Paris Saint-Germain, the Chelsea goalkeeper’s way of discussing his future has angered more than one Blues fan, but, for the time being, he remains at Stamford Bridge.

Lifting the FA Cup this year and the Premier League at the end of the previous campaign, the Belgium international is now aiming for the World Cup with his country, as he prepares for his trip to Russia in the coming days.

Prior to leaving, however, Courtois gave an interview to Sport/Foot in his home country to discuss all things national team, while also talking about what he wants from his club career going forward.

Asked if his priority was football over than finance, he said: “In my eyes, that’s what’s most important… You know, even the players who play in a mid table club, or even those in the bottom half dream of winning something one day.

“I’m no different. When I see Kevin [De Bruyne] and Vincent [Kompany] lift the Premier League trophy, I want that to be me next year, even if I’ve won it twice. Dani Alves might already have 30 trophies, but he’ll still be happy to win number 31. The same goes for Iniesta, Piqué or Ramos.”

As for the upcoming international tournament, while the dream would be to win it, Courtois is aware that could be a difficult task, with so many great nations taking part.

For Belgium, he feels the aim is the semi-finals, and going out in the quarter-finals isn’t something the team should be content with.
