Taking Reading to the Championship playoffs last season only to lose in the final, Jaap Stam’s stock as a manager rose drastically, even if the current campaign could be going a lot better.

Currently 18th in the Championship, just three points above the relegation zone, the Royals have struggled to match their exploits from a year ago, and that has led to the Dutch manager being linked with a move away from Madejski Stadium.

The latest in a serie of exclusives from TuttoMercatoWeb claims AZ Alkmaar in the Eredivisie are considering making a move for the Reading manager, with the Italian website explicitly stating the former Manchester United defender will ‘surely leave his current team’ at the end of the season.

In fact, they go as far as saying Jaap Stam to AZ is ‘more than an idea’, hinting they believe it could very well happen.

This backs up their previous claim on the Reading manager’s situation, reporting the Dutchman was holding talks with the Championship side back in January about potentially leaving, although that has yet to materialise.

That an Italian website knows so much about a Dutch manager in England is a bit strange, but it’s worth pointing out the 45-year-old spent five years in Italy with Lazio and AC Milan after his Manchester United spell.

Maybe they know someone who knows someone, who knows?
