Wolves fans are probably very hopeful that Léo Bonatini can stay at the club after the end of the season.
Currently with 12 Championship goals, the Brazilian striker didn’t need much time to show his skills and turn into the team’s top goalscorer.
But on a loan from Al-Hilal until the end of the season, it’s up to Wolves, and the player’s wish, to make his transfer permanent once the buying option is activated.
Bonatini spoke about his situation in an interview with Brazilian outlet Lance on Friday, and said his representatives are taking care of everything, although his wish is to remain at the club.
“I’m very happy here and I want to stay at Wolverhampton. The club was very important to me, I’m sure that I made the right choice and I found my football again. It’s a football that I adapted to very fast, my teammates helped me a lot and I hope that my stay at Wolves will be concrete at the end of the season.
“I confess that I am not very worried about this situation, because my contract goes until the end of the season and I have total confidence in my agents, who take care of it for me. I always say that I want to be focused on playing, scoring, and I leave it in their hands because I know they will do the best for me.
“My goal is to help Wolves advance to the first division and, if possible, the title. After that, let’s sit down and talk, but I’ve always made it clear that I want to stay at the club and I’m going to be very happy if it comes real.”
Asked about the race to be Championship top scorer this season, Bonatini said: “As a striker, I want to score as many goals as possible and help my team-mates to score as well. I’m not the type of player that keeps thinking only about me, because everywhere I went I tried to look at the squad, which was always the most important.
“What interests me is that the team win the games to achieve the goal that is access to the first division. The secret of our team is that no one has the ego bigger than the other, everyone plays together for the same purpose and that is how we go until the end of the season.”
And the Brazilian really has his feet on the ground. Lance also made questions about his future in the Premier League, but the striker made sure to say there’s still a long way to go until promotion.
“Of course our goal is to gain access to the Premier League, but we are focused on improving our Championship performance by thinking game by game. We know that although we are the leaders of the league, we have many games to improve, improve our style of play and even this stage of learning in the Championship can make a difference if we gain access to the elite. But our head is totally focused on doing the best in the many games that still have to happen in the second division.”
