Whilst Erik Sviatchenko leaving Celtic for Besiktas may never have been a very strong rumour, given around 15 similar players were linked with the Turkish club, that injury was a reported reason for its collapse could be true of other avenues.
Just when Sviatchenko needed to be available to play, he wasn’t, and clubs who will have already been a little put off by him falling down the Celtic pecking order, will have been further concerned by the defender’s fitness.
FC Copenhagen seemed a much more realistic option, but money killed that. Whilst there was an over reporting of offers which didn’t actually arrive at Celtic, a few chats between FCK and the Scottish Premiership club made the situation clear.
It’s not exactly an optimistic look coming from BT.
The Champions League could have been a shop window for Erik Sviatchenko, but it’s closed.
