Everton may be being used to help increase player’s salary, byproduct of being rich

 

Everton have this week been dragged into the Jonathan Vieira situation, with Marca claiming on Tuesday the club are willing to pay €30m, which would match the player’s buyout clause.

Throughtout the reports it’s consistently pointed out that Viera would like to stay at Las Palmas, but the salary on offer from Everton and Swansea City is oh-so-tempting. Given the 26 year old last renewed his Las Palmas contract in November, the club would need a pretty good reason to give Viera another pay rise, and that’s being provided to them.

Marca cover the situation again on Wednesday, mentioning Everton, Swansea, and Newcastle United, as before. Las Palmas will have to ‘fight hard’ to keep Viera, say Marca, and the club’s president Miguel Angel Ramirez is set to sit down and negotiate a pay rise with the player.

The Spanish newspaper say: ‘Viera wants to stay on the island, but understands that, economically, the offers that come from England – €4m in salary – are more attractive. That ‘s why, before making a decision on his future, he wants to sit down with the club, increase his earnings and be the best paid of the staff.’

Bet he does.

It’s almost certain that neither Newcastle or Swansea would pay the player’s €30m buyout clause, and perhaps Everton are being used to help Viera get what he seems to want most – more money at Las Palmas.
