On Tuesday morning we covered claims from Spanish newspaper Mundo Deportivo that Javier Manquillo had agreed a three year contact with Newcastle United, and would be moving from Atletico Madrid.
It was stated that things were moving so quickly that the medical was possible yesterday, whilst that didn’t happen, the transfer still appears to be very much on.
With the English media still catching up with Tuesday’s Spanish reports, it’s worth seeing what is now being claimed in Spain.
Wednesday’s edition of Marca reports that Manquillo’s agreement to join Newcastle United is ‘almost total’, and the fullback has been an ‘express request’ of manager Rafael Benitez.
Manquillo has been allowed to look for a new club because he’s not in the plans of Diego Simeone at Atletico Madrid.
The 23 year old has been excused from Atletico’s preseason tour and is set to end his time with the Rojiblancos, and the likeliest destination right now is Newcastle United.
