Mundo Deportivo on Monday afternoon join the Spanish chorus of claims that Samu Saiz is edging closer to a Leeds United move.

Saiz had been linked with Leeds United during the last summer transfer window, but despite Garry Monk since leaving the club, it’s insisted the Spaniard remains a top target.

Eibar thought they’d wrapped up a deal for Saiz, but won’t compete with Leeds United, either on transfer fee or wages. Mundo Deportivo say Leeds United are best positioned to complete a deal for Saiz, and that their €3.5m offer is the highest of all so far.

The salary is also said to be higher, with the Spanish newspaper saying Leeds United have offered ‘close to €1m’ a year.

Mundo Deportivo sound a little bitter on behalf of Eibar, and state: ‘In this way, Samu Saiz has been seduced by the greater economic offer that has come from English football and would prefer to play in the Championship, the English second division, rather than in the Primera Division.’

It’s not completely done, and there’s still a chance Leeds United are being used to force more money out of Eibar, but the Spanish press are certainly buying that the interest is genuine, and a quick deal possible.
