Back in January, Jewison Bennette left Sunderland to join Greek side Aris Saloniki on a loan deal.
That turned out to be a big mistake for him, as despite a couple of appearances in February, he ended up never playing there again.
Bennette is today featured in an interview with Teletica, and explained everything that happened since his Sunderland exit.
The player has explained that he had problems with Aris Saloniki’s board, and those issues ended up having big impact on what happened in the team.
“It was quite a complicated year, I made bad decisions, going to a club that broke my contract in every way. My agent recommended me to go there, he told me not to talk to anyone, it was a bad decision I made, but it’s all learning.
“I’ll start pre-season with Sunderland and we’ll see what happens if I’m loaned out to a new team or not.”
“I had to take out of my savings to pay my expenses, house and car over there, they are irresponsible. I made a bad decision and it’s a learning experience for me, not to make hasty decisions and now to concentrate on my team to give my best.”
Bennette, who joined Sunderland back in 2022, still has a contract with the Black Cats running until 2026.
The Greek season ends next weekend, with Aris Saloniki playing the cup final, but it doesn’t seem like the Costa Rican player will be there watching the game.
The winger had already been struggling to play for Sunderland this season, as he’d only made a couple of appearances for the Black Cats, and that’s what resulted in his January departure.
Id there’s no future at Sunderland, then it will be up to his agent to find a new destination in the summer, with Bennette this time choosing his club more wisely.
