Jurgen Klopp is an emotional kind of guy, and Liverpool are an emotional football club, so the two were always going to be a good fit. That doesn’t guarantee success on the pitch, but it pretty much guarantees there’ll be a connection between manager and fans.
Speaking to Marca, the Spanish newspaper put it to Klopp that Liverpool are ‘a very special club’, and asked how You’ll Never Walk Alone makes him feel.
Klopp opened up and explained: “I am perhaps the luckiest manager in the world because I worked at the only two German clubs where that song is sung: Mainz and Borussia. And then, fate has put me in Liverpool, which is the original place. I’m a football romantic. That song never fails to thrill me. I feel it deep inside.
“In life we face the problems alone, and here know that you enjoy or suffer with a lot of people… and 30 million more fans worldwide. It is a strong sense of a community, which does not solve the mundane problems, but it helps to do it.”
Klopp certainly knows what Liverpool means to supporters of the club around the world, and has fully bought into the Anfield magic created when the song rings around the stadium.
Currently in the Champions League qualifying places, Klopp will hope You’ll Never Walk Alone will be sung before big European matches next season.
