If Mundo Deportivo on Friday are to be believed, Tottenham have taken the first step in signing Barcelona youngster Marc Cucurella.

We pick up three weeks after the last update, when Sport explained talks between the left-back and the La Liga champions would take place in the coming weeks regarding a new contract.

‘The coming weeks’ have now passed, and Mundo Deportivo are reporting that Cucu, as he’s more commonly known, has rejected Barcelona’s first contract renewal offer, as it hasn’t met his expectations.

This is, of course, good news for Mauricio Pochettino, but there’s a little twist, which is that Cucurella is happy to wait for an improved offer from Barcelona before looking at the other offers at his disposal.

This, according to Mundo, includes one from Tottenham, who have been following the 19-year-old since December.

Spurs still have to wait, but things are looking better for Mauricio Pochettino in this saga, even if Everton, Chelsea and Manchester City are also lurking in the shadows.
