Over the January transfer window, Jonathan Calleri seemed desperate to leave the London Stadium, wanting to get more game time than he was getting at West Ham.
Brought in on loan from Deportivo Maldonado in Uruguay, the Argentine forward has only scored one goal in 13 league appearances this season, and spends more time on the bench or in the stands than on the pitch.
However, it appears the player had quite a few options in January, with agents seemingly offering the forward’s services around quite forcefully, as reported by But! Football Club in France.
The French website reports Calleri was offered to Saint-Etienne, who are currently looking for young players to strengthen their squad, with the West Ham forward, at 23, ticking those boxes.
With a future far from London, and his time in the Premier League unlikely to have convinced other English clubs to gamble on him, a move to France could be an interesting next step for the West Ham player.
Saint-Etienne probably wouldn’t say no this summer, especially with the likely departure of Nolan Roux in the coming months.
