Signing a five-year contract at Arsenal when he joined from Newcastle for £12.75m in 2014, the likelihood of Mathieu Debuchy seeing it through at the Emirates remains slim.

Already spending the second half of last season on loan at Bordeaux due to a lack of game-time under Arsène Wenger, the 31-year-old is once again injured, and could be one of the Gunners’ sales in the summer.

The most probably destination, according to France Football, is Marseille, who are said to be currently studying the possibility of reuniting him with his former manager Rudi Garcia.

Teaming up with him during his time at Lille prior to his move to Newcastle, Debuchy would certainly get more time on the pitch at the Stade Vélodrome, only having to contend with an inconsistent Hiroki Sakai as his main competition.

Bringing experience as well as cover, if Arsenal are prepared to sell the last two years of his contract to Marseille on the cheap, this could certainly be a quickly done deal that would suit all parties down to a T.

Debuchy has only made one appearance for the Gunners this season, a 16 minute cameo in a 3-1 win against Bournemouth, which he started but ended up leaving early due to a hamstring injury.
