As Wolverhampton Wanderers striker Matheus Cunha joins Brazil for another international break, he now starts to find some resistance from the local media about his call-up.
On UOL, we get to see a piece from columnist Rafael Reis calling the player a ‘striker without goals’.
The story says Cunha is one of the ‘most questioned names’ in Fernando Diniz’s list, and points out that the Wolves centre-forward is becoming ‘notorious’ for not scoring goals.
UOL points out that since Cunha joined Wolves, players from the national team who have defensive duties have been scoring more goals than him. That’s the case of Juventus’ Bremer and Fluminense’s Nino, who are centre-backs, as well as Manchester United midfielder Casemiro.
The outlet adds that despite costing a combined €118m when all his transfers are added up, Cunha has never really been a regular scorer at the highest level. That’s pretty much true, and with his three goals in 29 appearances for Wolves so far, it’s hard to imagine that changing.
